Shining a Spotlight on Patient Safety and Quality: Monitoring Nursing-Sensitive Quality Indicators
Beginning in October of 2005, the Maine Quality Forum has asked all hospitals in Maine to report quarterly Nursing Sensitive Quality Indicators in order to monitor key components of patient safety and quality.

The American Association of Nurse Assessment Coordinators (AANAC) is a non-profit professional organization dedicated to providing accurate and timely information, opportunities for education, and representation of Nurse Assessment Coordinators in long term care. AANAC offers web-based support and resources for MDS Coordinators including: quarterly newsletters, an on-line discussion group, weekly on-line NAC News, an archive of frequently asked questions, immediate and daily postings of the latest regulatory information, management and in-service aids, continuing education and national conference featuring top expert CMS and LTC speakers. Informa Health Announces New Education Health Letter for Healthcare Professionals Caring for Older Adults
Informa Health offers geriatric continuing education for healthcare professionals in any setting who care for older adults. AWHONN-Maine
AWHONN (Association of Women’s Health, Obstetrical and Neonatal Nurses)- Maine offers northern and southern chapter educational opportunities, and hosts a statewide conference each year. AWHONN partners with the March of Dimes to address the issue of premature birth. Scope and Standards Update
The ANA publishes the Scope and Standards series, booklets which are used to guide the profession in many ways. We are pleased to report that Ellen Bridge, BSN, RN, BS, MTS, ANA-Maine’s CE Commissioner who is a Consultant for State Public Health Nursing, was chosen for the team to revise the booklet on the ANAPublic Health and Community Nursing standards . The changes have been made and the draft has just completed a peer review. It should be available on the www.nursebooks.org site in 2006.
